The first effect of stereotyping is a phenomenon known as “stereotype threat” that occurs in a situation where a person is in fear of unintentionally confirming a negative stereotype. Several studies have been conducted to discover the effects of stereotype threats.Racial Stereotyping Is a overall idea of a group of people, such as a race or a population. Racial Stereotypes can cause you to do unnecessary things. They could make you lash out in rage or even confront that person face to face. If you stereotype someone more than once and mean it that could push them to do something irrational.Racial stereotypes often are the cause of such an occurrence, and most of us have been at the receiving end at some point of time or the other. In this article, we try to understand these stereotypes better and take a look at the most common stereotypes that exist. Racial stereotypes create a false concept of what people are and how they live. It cannot be denied that any stereotypes have effect on individuals. Thus Tony Brown explains the idea of critical race theory in his article (Brown, 2013). In the article “Stereotypes” by Saul McLeod, he uses research on stereotypes by Katz and Braly which states, “Not surprisingly, racial stereotypes always seem to favor the race of the holder and belittle other races” (McLeod,Katz,Braly). A person who is set on pre-judging someone is that they are better than someone of another race.
